The Brightonomicon Receives Top Review

Posted on August 23rd, 2008

Today is the BIG DAY as it is the day Robert Rankin makes his drama debut on the BBC! THE BRIGHTONOMICON will be airing for 13 weeks on BBC7 starting Saturday 23rd August 2008 at 6:30pm. Now, we weren't expecting any reviews, so imagine our joy to read today's WEEKEND supplement in the DAILY MAIL - radio reviewer Susan Jeffreys gave the series a glowing review (in fact, giving us top marks!) Here's what she wrote:

DRAMA - THE BRIGHTONOMICON - Today, 6.30pm, BBC7 ****
Rescued from death by drowning, young Rizla is taken into a strange world of papal plots, time travel and slap-up free meals. A full-on, 13-part adaptation of Robert Rankin's Brentford Trilogy fantasy. Highly entertaining.

This is a very exciting time for all of us at Hokus Bloke Productions and Ladbroke Productions. This is Robert's first BBC adaptation, and also the first major drama to be aired on the BBC written & directed by Neil Gardner...so we have the champers on standby. Thanks for tuning in and thanks for listening...enjoy, and keep an eye out for Count Otto!

Coming To A Radio Near YOU!

Posted on July 29th, 2008

6 months on from the release of the box-set and download version of the series, we can now announced (and very excited by this we are!) that THE BRIGHTONOMICON will be airing for 13 weeks on BBC7 starting Saturday 23rd August 2008 at 6:30pm. The series will transmit at the same time every Saturday through to November 15th. If you miss an episode, you can hear the repeat the same night, just after midnight at 12:30am, or via the Listen Again/iPlayer service available at the BBC website and through services such as Virgin Media.

The episodes are edited for radio...but no, that doesn't mean we've removed naughty words or some of the more bizarre elements that make Robert's work so fantastic...it means a few trims here and there to get the length down to 28mins30secs. Can you spot the bits that have gone? Missing the missing bits? Well fear not. You can always buy the full version as a beautiful box-set or as a delightful download...see below for more details on where to buy.

You can listen to BBC7 via one of those new fangled DAB Digital radio sets that are just about everywhere nowadays (they use digital hamsters inside to power them...digitally of course!). If you are bereft of such a piece of marvellous technology, then pop along to the BBC7 website and tune in via your PC/MAC.

ROBERT RANKIN ARRIVES AT AUNTIE...we knew it was only a matter of when, not if!

Rare Signed Brightonomicon Posters Auction

Posted on April 28th, 2008

Ebay.co.uk

Thanks to the lovely Mr Robert Rankin, and the cast n crew of the series, and our friends at Ebay, we have raised a staggering £205.00 for The Stroke Association by auctioning off a rare signed Brightonomicon poster. The winning bidder was Nick Dalziel, and he'll be getting his super-sized piece of Rankin-belia toot sweet...although not before Mr R has personalised it like you wouldn't believe (what a nice fellow).

Here are a couple of pics of what Nick has bought:

Thanks to everyone who bid. If you are not Nick, and still want one of these incredible posters, signed by the cast and crew AND personalised by Robert Rankin, keep an eye out for our upcoming auctions...we have more to sell off...all for a great cause!

The cast & Crew of The Brightonomicon Audio Series proudly donate the money raised from this auction to The Stroke Association in the name and memory of PETER BARNES (1973 - 2003), a great radio talent, and a great mate!

Have a laugh and help save lives!

Have you already bought a copy of the series? Well, if not, or if you are feeling flush, why not consider purchasing the rather natty DOWNLOAD version. The fabulous people at audioVille.co.uk are offering the digital download version of the series for the great price of £15.99, but what is important is that they are making it available as a CD-quality STEREO download (unlike certain other download sites with an 'i' in their name we could, but won't, mention!)

Even more important is that for each and every sale of the series Audioville is donating £3 to The Stroke Association! Stroke is the 3rd biggest killer in the UK and devestates thousands of lives every year. The series has been dedicated to the memory of Peter Barnes who died of a stroke aged just 30 back in 2003, but we wanted to do more...so when thinking digital download, think audioVille.co.uk (AND they'll accept orders from anywhere in the world!) You can have a laugh AND help save lives, what more perfect thing could there be? Do please encourage your friends and family to buy a download or ten as well!
